Public Apology – Ivan Wells




At the Shire Council meeting held on 20th September 2018, the Council considered a report by the Acting CEO in relation to Mr Ivan Wells, the Shire’s Building Maintenance Officer.

It was confirmed by Council that the former CEO’s project management of the Caravan Park Units development was inadequate and that no blame can be assigned to Mr Ivan Wells for the project’s delays and significant overspend.

It was also decided to authorise the Acting CEO to settle an industrial matter relating to the non-payment of tool and vehicle allowances to Mr Wells at the soonest opportunity and without reference back to Council.

The Shire will also assist Mr Ivan Wells to the fullest extent possible in providing a statement to the Shire’s insurers on events in December 2016 that eventually led to his worker’s compensation claim.

On behalf of the Shire of Perenjori, the Shire President and Acting CEO now make a public apology to Mr Ivan Wells for the lack of empathy and compassion shown by the Shire in dealing with his workers compensation claim.

The apology is made with a view to assisting Ivan’s return to the workplace – not only as a valued employee but also as a respected community member.
